iPhone 17 Coming in September: New Design, Camera, and Price

Apple is gearing up for the official launch of its next-generation smartphones, expected to be unveiled in September 2025. The upcoming iPhone 17 series will reportedly consist of four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

According to early supply chain information and internal reports, the company will debut the new "Air" variant as a replacement for the discontinued "Plus" model. This new version is designed to be slimmer and more lightweight, possibly measuring just 5.5mm in thickness. Positioned between the base and Pro models, the Air edition is intended to target users looking for a middle-ground device and is seen as a competitor to Samsung’s expected Galaxy S25 Edge.

Apple is known for maintaining a consistent launch schedule for its iPhone releases. The upcoming models are anticipated to be introduced in the second week of September, similar to past patterns. Keynote events typically occur between Monday and Wednesday of that week. For example, the iPhone 16 was launched on September 9, 2024 (Monday), while the iPhone 15 was unveiled on September 5, 2023 (Tuesday).

Pre-orders are usually activated on the Friday of the launch week, followed by full retail availability beginning the next Friday.

There is speculation surrounding the pricing structure of the new iPhones, particularly due to the lingering trade tensions that began under former President Donald Trump. A proposed 25 per cent tariff on Apple products has raised questions regarding final costs, as Apple continues to increase production in India in a bid to minimize reliance on Chinese manufacturing.

In the Indian market, the entry-level iPhone 17 is expected to be priced around Rs 89,900, representing a moderate increase from the iPhone 16’s launch price of Rs 79,900.

Camera hardware across the iPhone 17 lineup is likely to see major changes. Apple is reportedly updating the front-facing camera to a 24MP sensor, an improvement over the 12MP unit used in the previous generation.

The main iPhone 17 will feature a 48MP rear camera, while the Pro Max version could include three separate 48MP sensors dedicated to wide-angle, ultra-wide, and telephoto capabilities. There is also speculation about the Pro Max supporting 8K video recording, marking a first for Apple’s smartphone lineup.

Barring the Air variant, the screen sizes of the iPhone 17 series are expected to remain the same as those on the iPhone 16. The base model will feature a 6.1-inch display, the Pro model will adopt a 6.3-inch screen, and the Pro Max will maintain its 6.9-inch size.
